This is how the team behind Palworld reacted to Nintendo’s lawsuit
Pocketpair had checked the legality of it’s game before launch, they did not expect to be sued.

The team behind Pocketpair, the studio that made Palworld, was surprised when Nintendo decided to sue them, as they had checked the legal aspects of the game beforehand, and being all Pokémon fans, they sure were sad to know about it.
In an interview for PCGamer, their community manager John Buckley confessed that “it was a very depressing day” for the team. The lawsuit was filed last September, and they were asking for 5 million yen (over $33k), for the violation of multiple patterns.

“We did legal checks before Palworld released and they were all cleared in Japan,” John Buckley told PCGamer. “So obviously when the lawsuit was announced we were like, ‘What?’ And we went back to the lawyers, and the lawyers contacted the courts and asked, ‘What’s going on?’ and that’s when we realized it was patents they were going for.”
He also said that almost everyone at Pocketpair is a fan of Pokémon, so it was an animic blow to them. The sue changed a lot of their plans and even made them hire security for the Tokyo Game Show. Palworld had launched in January 2024 with more than 2 million players in the first day, gaining attention from the world, and Nintendo along.
