Analogue

This is the Analogue 3D, a new N64 that upscales games to 4K: how to pre-order and price

Hungry to replay your N64 games on a big modern screen? The Analogue 3D promises to upscale your games up to 4K, and have started pre-orders.

Analogue, the creators of the popular Analogue Pocket, have recently presented their new product: Analogue 3D. It is an unofficial Nintendo 64 reproduction console compatible with the original accessories and games with native 4K output that upscales the cartridges that we insert. So when does it go on sale and how to pre-order it?

Where and how to pre-order Analogue 3D?

The Analogue 3D can be reserved at the official Analogue store starting Monday, October 21, 2024 at 8am PDT / 11am EST.

The base price of the device is $249.99 and each controller costs $39.99, not including the price of shipping and customs. Both the console and the controls are available in two colors: black and white. These pads are new and have been created for the occasion by 8BitDo, a popular hardware manufacturer specializing in creating controllers that resemble original retro consoles in both feel and shape.

It should be noted that Analogue 3D comes without any controller, so we will have to buy one or use one that we already have and that is compatible with a Nintendo 64 like Nintendo’s own original pads.

What exactly does Analogue 3D do and what is it for?

Analogue 3D is a reimagining of the Nintendo 64 that offers 4K resolution and full compatibility with the games, controllers and accessories of the original console.

In addition to being region-free and having compatibility with some wireless controls via Bluetooth, the Analogue 3D is a console that uses emulation via FPGA. That is to say, through hardware. This allows you to replicate the original at the circuit level, so emulation is more accurate than via software.

The company announces that Analogue 3D does not have problems that are present in the emulation via software as input lag, audio and video inaccuracies and frame rate inconsistent. It is, therefore, about the “ultimate” solution for a machine that has been infamous in the emulation scene for the enormous problems it caused at the time due to its peculiar hardware.

This console too has display filters that simulate the look of how games would look on CRT and PVM monitors, being a fundamental part of the experience and even something necessary and expected by certain titles, especially those that used sprites in 2D.

Its operating system also allows us to organize our physical game library and use extra functions such as taking screenshots or using save states, so basically we can make quick saves and loads at any time in our games. This in turn is a simple way to make backup copies of our saved games, and even allows us being able to play without problems and save our progress even if the cartridges have a dead battery.

Although it is not mentioned on the official website, It is expected that the console’s operating system will also give rise to the community implementing methods to be able to play digital “backups” of our games. both Nintendo 64 and other systems, this being another of its great attractions.
