This is the new WhatsApp AI that summarizes your chats without breaking your privacy
Meta AI brings you up to date with chat summaries, always prioritizing your privacy.
It has happened to all of us: we neglect WhatsApp for a few hours, and all the conversations that could have appeared throughout the day, happen in a few minutes. Hundreds of messages in a group and little time to know what caused such a commotion. That’s why Meta announced this week that through a new feature powered by its artificial intelligence, you will now be able to have the ability to have a summary of all unread messages in a chat.
Our messages privacy first and foremost
Through a publication in WhatsApp’s blog, it is described how these “Message Summaries” will be generated, and privacy being an important issue for Meta to generate these summaries. “Message Summaries uses Private Processing technology, which allows Meta AI to generate a response without Meta or WhatsApp ever seeing your messages or the private summaries. No one else in the chat can see that you summarized unread messages either,” the company said in a blog post.
Message Summaries is a feature that, right now, is only for users in the English language in the United States, with the hope that it can be expanded to other languages and countries later this year. Although Android users have a similar option in Android Auto, having a summary natively in the app is appreciated.
How to enable WhatsApp’s Message Summaries
In addition to this, Meta mentioned that this will be a feature that is optional and is turned off by default. If you want to access this feature, you can do so by going to Settings > Chats > Private Processing, which lets you turn on or off individual functions.
