Three things we want for Nintendo Switch 2: franchises that should return, the most anticipated remakes, and a Mario star trophy system

The Nintendo Switch successor will be announced in the next three months, should we make a wish list for it?

Although the current console is almost eight years old, it still has a lot to say and its most anticipated games of 2025 make that clear. However, the new one will be announced before the last day of March, and that makes us all think about what it will be like, what it will offer and, of course, what we would like to see on it. So here we go with three things we want from Nintendo Switch 2: franchise that must return, the most requested remakes and yes, we want Nintendo achievements and trophies.

Franchises that deserve to return to Nintendo Switch 2

We want to make it clear that we are not talking about franchises that have left the Nintendo Switch and are sure to release new installments soon, such as the future Mario Kart 9, a new Animal Crossing or Pokémon 10th Generation. We’ve already covered all of that, so let’s focus on a wish list that focuses on classics that Nintendo could bring back and that would surely bring joy to many gamers.

  • F-Zero - With the exception of the indefatigable Mario Kart, F-Zero is one of Nintendo’s most legendary racing franchises. Neither the Wii, Wii U, nor the Nintendo Switch itself have had a new installment, so the last one goes back to the GameCube, the console that gave us the fantastic F-Zero GX. It’s about time for a new game, right?
  • Baten Kaitos - It’s a great JRPG and was recently remastered. A third installment was on the table years ago, but never saw the light of day. We don’t know what Monolith Soft will do, though it’s logical to think they’ll be working on Xenoblade Chronicles 4, but wouldn’t a hypothetical Baten Kaitos 3 be great?
  • Wario - There may be no one on the planet who could say no to a new Wario Land. It’s one of the best platforming and action sagas in Nintendo history, but it’s been over 15 years since we’ve seen a main installment. It’s about time...

  • Earthbound
  • Golden Sun
  • Nintendogs
  • Excitebike

The most anticipated remakes coming to Nintendo Switch 2.

Nintendo’s current console is nearly eight years old (it launched in 2017), and it’s received several remasters and remakes of beloved titles: Pokémon Pearl and Diamond, Another Code, Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, Super Mario RPG, Luigi’s Mansion 2, The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening and Skyward Sword, Super Mario Galaxy, Metroid Prime? The list is long, but there are still some remakes that we all want to see on Nintendo Switch 2.

  • The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages and Oracle of Seasons (GBC)
  • Golden Sun (GBA)
  • Golden Sun: The Lost Age (GBA)
  • Luigi’s Mansion (GameCube)
  • F-Zero GX (GameCube)

Achievements and Trophies on Nintendo Switch 2

Some people aren’t interested in them, but others of us really like unlocking achievements and trophies, something we’ve been doing for many years on Xbox and PlayStation. It’s a gamification system that, while not providing any tangible benefits, incentivizes players to complete games 100%, take on all the challenges they have, and keep playing beyond the credits.

Xbox 360 introduced achievements through a point system (G) where each game counts 1,000G, while a little later it was Sony that bet on PSN trophies, changing the points for a platinum trophy that is unlocked when you already have all the other trophies of a video game. In the case of Nintendo Switch 2, it would be ideal if the achievements/trophies were stars like those in Super Mario Bros., divided into the following categories: bronze, silver, gold, and a final one equivalent to platinum: the Rainbow Star. Isn’t that a cool plan? Some users have shared such an idea, and recreated what it would look like in Super Mario Odyssey.
