Tom Cruise surprises at 62 with a spectacular muscularity for ‘Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning’
The famous actor has shared a new photo from the latest film in the popular action and espionage saga, showcasing an impressive physique: mission accomplished.

Tom Cruise, the Hollywood superstar known for his action-packed films and currently preparing for the release of his latest entry in the Mission: Impossible franchise, has shared a new photo from Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning. In the image, at 62 years old—he turns 63 in July—Cruise shows off a spectacularly muscular build. After decades of back-to-back blockbusters, the veteran actor is still at the top of his game with what appears to be the final installment of his iconic action and spy saga. And Tom Cruise seems to be in better shape than ever.
Tom Cruise shares new behind-the-scenes photos
The new image shows Cruise’s character, Ethan Hunt, recovering in a shower after what appears to be an intense deep-sea mission, as hinted by other underwater shots and the official trailer for Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning. Cruise is in peak physical condition, with visible biceps, triceps, deltoids, and pecs. What’s even more striking is that this is a resting pose—he already looks incredibly fit without even flexing. Time seems to have no effect on Tom Cruise.
He’s also posted more behind-the-scenes photos from the set, where he can be seen overseeing recently filmed scenes, reinforcing that there’s no Hollywood trickery involved—his abs and obliques look straight out of the ‘90s, even though it’s been decades since then.
But Cruise’s physique isn’t just for the camera; as we all know, he performs his own stunts and high-risk scenes. That includes this underwater sequence filmed in a massive 8.5-million-liter water tank equipped with a mechanical rig that could rotate under the direction of the technical team. In these scenes, Cruise wore a specialized underwater suit, limiting his submersion time to just 10 minutes, adding another wild challenge to his long list of on-screen feats.
“I’m breathing my own carbon dioxide. It builds up in the body and affects your muscles,” Cruise told Empire. “You have to push through all of that and stay present.”
Recalling the shoot, director Christopher McQuarrie said it was "an immense challenge and a terrifying experience. Not only was it a serious physical ordeal for Cruise, but most importantly, we had to make sure it wasn’t a death trap.”
“He was inside a spinning structure filled with debris,” the director explained. “We had to make it look as chaotic and unhinged as possible—but also repeatable, and something Tom could navigate and survive.” Clearly, if anyone can do it, it’s Tom Cruise.
Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning hits theaters on May 23. Mission accomplished.
