Tom Holland reveals how much creative control he has over ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’
The actor explains his deeper involvement, fan research, and influence on the film’s direction.

As the release of ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ draws closer, Tom Holland has offered new insight into just how involved he has been in shaping the film. This isn’t the first time the actor has discussed his involvement with the upcoming installment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and a new interview with Esquire has revealed new parts of this.
Holland has taken on a far more active creative role than in previous installments, negotiating what he himself described as “safety blankets” into his contract. These clauses granted him direct input during both pre-production and post-production, as well as the opportunity to watch the very first cut of the movie, ensuring creative alignment from start to finish. The actor has explained that he immersed himself in fan discussions across podcasts, forums, and YouTube videos, carefully listening to what audiences felt was missing from his earlier trilogy. This, in Holland’s words, is to bring what “the fans were yearning for”.
A Redesigned Suit and a More Grounded Spider-Man
One of the most tangible outcomes of that research is the redesigned Spider-Man suit. Holland and the design team looked closely at what fans admired about the versions played by Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield, using those elements as reference points. Subtle but deliberate changes were made: the belt line was lowered to lengthen the torso visually, while the boots were reworked to give the illusion of longer legs. “Obviously,” Holland joked in a recent interview, “I’m limited as a vertically challenged person.”
‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ takes place four years after the events of ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home,’ and Peter Parker is living completely alone, cut off from his loved ones due to Doctor Strange’s spell; no one remembers him. However, his life as Spider-Man is about to change forever with the onset of a strange new wave of crime and an unexpected mutation that is beginning to alter his physical condition.
Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton from a screenplay by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers, ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ stars Tom Holland, Zendaya, Jacob Batalon, Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle, Michael Mando as Scorpion, Marvin Jones III as Tombstone, and Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner, as well as Sadie Sink’s MCU debut in a secret role.
