Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3+4 to change a key THPS4 mechanic and fans react
The remake will change the way THPS4 is played.

The announcement of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3+4 this week brought a wave of nostalgia to fans. Two of the franchise’s most popular titles will return in a remake that promises to retain classic content, including stages, skaters and music, along with some new features. However, according to reports later confirmed by Activision, one part of the game will not feel the same as the original installment.
THPS4 Won’t Feel Like It Used to
For fans of the first three installments, the gameplay mechanic was clear: a countdown that forced players to complete as many objectives as possible in a limited amount of time. However, Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 4 (in its PlayStation 2, Xbox and GameCube versions) changed this formula by eliminating the timer in Career Mode, allowing players to freely explore stages and trigger challenges by talking to NPCs.
However, Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3+4 will return to the countdown system in both games. Although there will be a free skate mode without a timer, it will not be possible to complete challenges in this mode.
Currently, the THPS community on Reddit is discussing this change. Some users have expressed their displeasure saying “Should change the title to tony hawks pro skater 3+3.5”, while others point out the size of the THPS4 levels saying “levels weren’t even designed for 2 minute timers. They’re significantly bigger levels since it was designed to be open world.” On the other hand, others mention that this change is “not a dealbreaker” or “I’ll still buy it, but this is really disappointing”.
