Warner Bros. does not guarantee there will be Superman games based on new movie
Superman’s complicated legacy in the video game industry and its future possibilities.
Superman is one of the most mythical superheroes in history, but unlike others such as Batman or Spider-Man, he has never managed to have a video game that lives up to his standards. It is a curse of sorts that Superman is usually synonymous with poor quality when it comes to the video games he has starred in. Although he has been part of outstanding titles such as the fighting game saga Injustice, outside of that, we would not know if it is because of the difficulty of replicating his enormous power in a game or for some other reason. Still, the reality is that Superman has never managed to have a memorable game. Will that change in the future? We don’t know, but the idea at Warner Bros. is not to force the creation of games about the character because new movies are coming out.
JB Perrette, Warner Bros. Discovery CEO of global streaming and gaming, spoke to Variety about the company’s ambitions in the video game industry, and Superman came up in the conversation, and the possibility of making a video game about the legendary superhero: “While they’re working on a Superman movie title, we’re not going to launch a Superman game purely because we feel obligated,” Perrette says. “We have to do something that makes sense for the gaming strategy and for fans and for the consumer.”
