CD Projekt RED had already hinted at The Witcher video game developed by The Molasses Flood —a small studio acquired by the company in 2021— would be innovative. However, the company barely gave details about the production, codenamed Project Sirius. Now, during their financial results presentation, CEO of the company Adam Kicinski has provided some clues about what the previously indie studio is working on.
“The game will be set in The Witcher universe, but it differs from our past releases in that it targets a much broader audience. Sirius will provide both single-player and multiplayer gameplay.”
Has Project Sirius development been restarted?
Last March, CD Projekt RED hinted that the development of Project Sirius was being rebooted, although they did not explain the reasons for this decision, beyond the economic impact that this would have on their forecasts.
The truth is that CD Projekt RED has outlined a very promising future. In addition to The Witcher 4 (Polaris, the first of a new trilogy), a veteran studio is working on a remake of the first game in the saga. They’re prepare to make a change of technology, since these games will stop using their own graphics engine and will use Unreal Engine 5 from now on instead.
The Witcher is a key brand for CDPR, but not the only one. Despite Cyberpunk 2077′s problems at launch, CD Projekt has put all the meat on the grill and will not only release a huge expansion (Phantom Liberty), but has also begun to organize their teams to develop Project Orion, an official sequel. All these projects are already headed to the new generation of machines, meaning PS5, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, and PC.
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt recently released a native version intended for new-gen systems, free for all those who have the original version.
