What to expect of Gamescom 2023: games, surprises, and news about the event

Gamescom 2023 is finally here, so here’s what to expect from the biggest video game show in Europe, and perhaps the world right now.

Gamescom 2023 is here. Once again, the largest video game show in Europe and one of the biggest events of the year in the industry returns to show a ton of news and fill millions of players around the world with excitement.

The most important companies on the planet are making an appearance at the event, showcasing news about some of their most anticipated games. There are also notable absences such as that of Sony and PlayStation, but the the return of Nintendo to the event after four years of absence invites you to think about a great week full of surprises and news.

Games, surprises, and news at Gamescom 2023

Everything will start with Opening Night Live on Tuesday, August 22 at 11:00 AM PT, the show presented by Geoff Keighley that will feature a large number of updates, being able to see more about already announced games and perhaps the odd surprise announcement.

Here’s a list of games we’ll be seeing, others we hope to see, and some we’re dreaming of at Gamescom 2023:

Confirmed at Opening Night Live

Alan Wake 2

Alan Wake 2 will come out a little later than expected, ten days to be precise. A wait that will not be too long to enjoy the sequel to the popular Remedy game, and Gamescom is the perfect place to see more about the terror that awaits us.

Black Myth: Wukong

Spectacular. Black Myth: Wukong could be defined that way from its first staging, and with recent gameplay that has left us amazed, at Gamescom we hope to see much more about the game.

Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty

After its disastrous start, Cyberpunk 2077 has only gotten better, and its Phantom Liberty expansion could be the absolute redemption for a game that hasn’t stopped going any further.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3

The Call of Duty saga wants to aim high with Modern Warfare 3 and show much more at Gamescom 2023 about what this installment is going to offer.

Sonic Superstars

SEGA’s commitment to Sonic in its most classic aspect continues with a Sonic Superstars that aims very high.

Crimson Desert

The spectacular game from the creators of Black Desert will show more of its incredible gameplay at Gamescom 2023.

Assassin’s Creed Mirage

The return of the saga to classic gameplay can be seen in more depth at Gamescom. The new installment of the saga will be set in the thousand-year-old city of Baghdad.

Mortal Kombat 1

The bloodiest fighting game returns with a reboot that points to the most brutal delivery of the saga to date.

Payday 3

Multiplayer action and fun in the popular heist saga that will try to go further with its long-awaited third installment.

Starfield

It’s here, the trip to the stars is almost a reality, and Gamescom will be the point where we can see the game at its best.

Warhammer Age of Sigmar: Realms of Ruin

Warhammer presents a fantastic state of health in the video game, and with Age of Sigmar: Realms of Ruin they intend to show one of the most spectacular RTS in memory. Picking up the Warhammer 40K Dawn of War baton in the fantasy universe.

Forza Motorsport

The purest simulation in Microsoft returns in a big way with Forza Motorsport. One of the most popular driving games on the planet.

Persona 3 Reload

The remake of the installment that began to change everything for the Shin Megami Tensei spin-off. Persona 3 finished laying the foundations that have made the saga one of the most popular JRPGs on the planet.

Persona 5 Tactica

Persona 5′s tactical spin-off is coming up, and we’ll be able to see more about it at Gamescom. A new foray of the Persona saga into the tactical genre after Persona Q on Nintendo 3DS.

Tekken 8

Some lucky players were already able to enjoy Tekken in its closed beta. Without an official release date yet, at Gamescom 2023 it will be fully playable.

Games that might appear at Gamescom 2023

Super Mario RPG

The remake of one of the most legendary Super Nintendo games. The union between Squaresoft and Nintendo in the 90s is revived with a facelift that brings Mario’s first foray into the JRPG to the fore.

Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2

We can’t wait to try and see more of Senua’s adventures. Hellblade 2 aims to be an experience as or more unforgettable than its first installment.

Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown

The most beloved prince of video games and a return that in its 2D style reminds us of the beginnings of Jordan Mechner’s classic.

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League

The long-awaited title from Rocksteady Studios promises fun and madness in equal measure. Gamescom 2023 is presented as a good stage to see more about the latest from the creators of the Batman Arkham saga.

Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater

The remake of what for many is the best game in the Metal Gear Solid saga, is one of the titles that people most want to see at Gamescom 2023. One of the best games in history in what could be a return to remember.

Super Mario Bros. Wonder

The new Super Mario Bros. in its most classic aspect aims to be one of the funniest and most special 2D titles of the popular character. One of Nintendo’s potential strengths at Gamescom 2023.

Princess Peach

Without an official title, the Princess Peach game is one of the most anticipated by Nintendo. The popular character has already starred in a game on Nintendo DS, and with the rise of the Super Mario Bros. movie, it’s the best time to give him the prominence he deserves again.

Since then, Rockstar has not resorted to events to show its games except in a few exceptions, and although unlikely, why not dream that Gamescom in 2023 ends up being the place where the sixth installment in the saga begins to take shape.
