What will happen to the Star Wars KOTOR Remake after Embracer and Saber Interactive’s separation? This is what we know
Embracer, the studio behind the KOTOR remake, Space Marine 2, and many more is going independent after the studio’s owner bought it off Embracer Group.
The divorce between Embracer Group and Saber Interactive has come to pass. In the middle of an internal restructuring process, which has affected multiple studios and companies in the industry, the leaks have been confirmed: the Nordic colossus has announced the sale of Saber to a private group of investors for a sum of money that some sources placed at about 500 million dollars. But during all of this, many have wondered about the future of Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic Remake, a game that has been living through quite an ordeal since its announcement in 2021.
Rumors of cancellation have hovered over the project almost from the beginning, but the parties have insisted that the title is still alive. According to journalist Jason Schreier (Bloomberg), Saber Interactive will continue developing the game. However, as soon as the deal closes, both Embracer and Saber Interactive are expected to work together and share the asset. The group has assured that it will retain some products, including “two joint projects with the buyer”, one of them “a previously announced triple-A game based on a large license.” It is assumed that this is Kotor Remake.
Star Wars Kotor Remake will take even more time to arrive
Lars Wingefors, CEO of Embracer Group, responded to several questions about this high-budget title: “No, I think this type of game needs some more love and respect”, so there is still some time before it can be released.
Star Wars: Knights of Old Republic Remake is in development for PS5 and PC. Development was initiated by Aspyr Media, a studio that until now had focused on remasters of classic games. However, after failing to produce a convincing internal build, development was handed over to Saber Interactive.
