Is the Star Wars KOTOR Remake in danger? PlayStation has started hiding evidence of its existence

With its trailer hidden and any mention of it scrubbed off the internet, it seems like Aspyr and Saber Interactive’s remake of KOTOR is in danger.

Update:
Star Wars Kotor remake

Uncertainty regarding the future of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic Remake has begun. It was at a 2021 PlayStation Showcase when the revamped version of KOTOR was announced with a short teaser, but since then it’s been all bad news. The news began to spread on Reddit and Twitter: Sony has deleted some tweets and made the original teaser private, which triggered speculation.

There is no official information on the status of KOTOR Remake. In a recent financial report, Embracer Group still listed it, so at least as of August 2023 it still wasn’t canceled. However, the conglomerate has announced the closure of Volition and new layoffs in the group that have not yet been finalized. It is unknown if PlayStation’s acts are a reflection of the game’s situation.

Star Wars KOTOR Remake changed studios

Bloomberg published in 2022 that Aspyr had developed a proof of concept, an investment that did not bear fruit because it did not receive the green light from Lucasfilm Games. Next, some of those responsible for the project were relieved and the development changed hands. Those responsible for the remasters, who were chosen for the Remake, didn’t end up with it. If it has not been canceled, Saber Interactive will be in charge of bringing it to fruition.

The Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic Remake would respect the story of the BioWare original, but should also improve graphics and modernize its systems. Beyond KOTOR, the actor who plays Kal Kestis in Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order and Jedi: Survivor has confirmed that they are already working on the third installment. Respawn is also working on a Star Wars FPS, while Ubisoft’s Massive Entertainment is doing the same with Star Wars Outlaws, the first open-world title in the series.
