The anticipation for the Nintendo Switch 2 has reached its peak, and video game fans can finally mark their calendars. Pre-orders for the highly anticipated console began on April 24, 2025, in the United States, with specific times for each store. However, pre-orders at Walmart and Target are already sold out, while GameStop will soon open its pre-orders.

Pre-order Times

Major stores in the United States have announced their opening times for Nintendo Switch 2 pre-orders. Walmart, Target, and Best Buy opened their pre-orders at midnight on April 24, Eastern Time (ET). This means that buyers on the West Coast could start pre-ordering at 9 PM on April 23, Pacific Time (PT). For those in other time zones, the times were as follows: 10 PM Mountain Time (MT), 11 PM Central Time (CT), 8 PM Alaska Time (AKT), and 6 PM Hawaii Time (HST).

GameStop, on the other hand, has opted for a different schedule. Online pre-orders will begin at 11 AM ET on April 24, which translates to 8 AM PT, 9 AM MT, 10 AM CT, 7 AM AKT, and 5 AM HST. In-store pre-orders at GameStop will begin at the local opening time of each store, which could be earlier than 11 AM ET for some locations.

Prices and Bundles

Nintendo has maintained the previously announced prices for the Switch 2. The basic console will be priced at $449.99, while the bundle that includes Mario Kart World will cost $499.99, offering a $30 savings compared to purchasing the game and console separately. Additionally, several accessories will be available for purchase along with the console, including the Pro Controller for $84.99, the Joy-Con 2 Pair for $94.99, and the Nintendo Switch 2 Dock Set for $119.99.

Expectations and Demand

Demand for the Nintendo Switch 2 is high, and Nintendo has warned that supply may not meet initial demand. This means that those who wish to have the console on launch day, June 5, 2025, will likely need to make a pre-order. Stores like Walmart have promised delivery on launch day if the pre-order is made before 8 AM on June 4.

My Nintendo Store Invitations

Nintendo has announced that invitations to purchase the Switch 2 on My Nintendo Store will be sent after the initial launch. The first batch of invitations will be sent on May 8, 2025, and additional invitations will be sent periodically until the purchase is open to everyone. Invitations will be prioritized for Nintendo Switch Online members who have had a paid subscription for at least 12 months and have accumulated at least 50 hours of gameplay.

Pre-order Preparations

To improve the chances of securing a pre-order, buyers are advised to prepare in advance. This includes having shipping and payment information ready in their respective store accounts and being ready to face possible virtual queues and website slowdowns due to high traffic.
