When is Sea of Thieves coming out on PlayStation 4 and 5: Will there be cross-play between the consoles?

The fourth Microsoft title coming to other platforms will soon be sailing the PlayStation seas. Here’s everything you need to know about it.

When is Sea of Thieves coming out on PlayStation 4 and 5: Will there be cross-play between the consoles?

The last few weeks have been a big shakeup in the gaming world, with Microsoft announcing that four of its games will be coming to other platforms this year, including Nintendo Switch and PlayStation. We’ve already seen the arrival of Pentiment and Hi-Fi Rush, and in April we’ll have Grounded in the middle of the month, and to finish off, one of the biggest gems on Xbox with Sea of Thieves.

When will Sea of Thieves arrive on PlayStation consoles?

As announced at the end of February, Sea of Thieves will arrive on this new sea of blue on April 30th, just a few weeks before the end of the current Season 11 in-game. However, it should be noted that Rare’s pirate title will only arrive on PlayStation 5, so if you’re expecting to play it on PlayStation 4, you won’t be able to.

In addition, it should be noted that this release will come with 3 different versions of the game, which differ in some cosmetic aspects. Below is the list and the prices:

  • Sea of Thieves - $39.99
  • Sea of Thieves: Deluxe Edition - $49.99
  • Sea of Thieves: Premium Edition - $59.99

These three editions are now available for pre-order and include the full Sea of Thieves game, as well as exclusive pre-order weapons and pets, and closed beta access before launch.

The Deluxe Edition also includes the following cosmetics and extras:

  • Ocean Crawler cosmetics
  • Collector’s Thunderous Fury ship items
  • Shrouded Ghost Hunter Blunderbuss
  • 10,000 Gold

The Premium Edition features :

  • All Deluxe Edition content
  • Dark Warsmith Ship Set / Costume
  • Season 12 Plunder Pass
  • 5-Days Early Access
  • Diabolical Dog Pet

Sea of Thieves will have cross-play?

The short answer is yes. The long answer is that Xbox, PC and Steam players have long coexisted and will now be able to play with PlayStation 5 players without any problems. All PlayStation 5 players need to do is link their account with a Microsoft account. What’s more, players who have already made great progress on other platforms will be able to continue their Sea of Thieves pirate adventures on PlayStation 5 by simply linking their accounts.

Sea of Thieves looks to have a very promising 2024

Aside from the fact that Sea of Thieves’ player base will continue to grow throughout the year (it’s worth noting that it has become one of the most anticipated titles on the platform since its arrival on PlayStation Store), the roadmap that Rare has laid out looks to be one that will expand and change the game’s meta. A few weeks ago, we caught up with Rare’s Pirate Lords, Mike Chapman and Joe Neate, to talk about the process of bringing this title to PlayStation waters and what it promises for 2024.
