The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power’ is gearing up for the premiere of its second season, and all eyes are on the character of Sauron. The Dark Lord was the big revelation of the first season, and the trailer for what is to come in Season 2 shows us the enormous importance his ruthless character will play as he tries to lead Middle-earth into absolute chaos. Who exactly is Sauron in ‘The Rings of Power’? A question that some fans of the series will be asking themselves, and while many could sense what his costume was in the first season, others would be surprised.
The eighth and final episode of Season 1, ‘The Rings of Power,’ revealed that Sauron had been hiding all along. Under what guise? Many had suspected that Halbrand, disguised as a Southerner whom Galadriel met during the shipwreck at Belegaer, was actually the Dark Lord. Morgoth’s right-hand man, long missing after his master’s defeat by the Valar, he now reappears, changing form and moving closer to his plan to rule them all.
Sauron’s Fearsome Presence in Season 2 of The Rings of Power
The revelation that Sauron, the Dark Lord, was hiding under the guise of Halbrand was one of the great moments of the Prime Video series. Now, in Season 2, he’s back, hiding under a new guise of supposed benevolence.
The Dark Lord will hide in the form of Annatar, the figure who taught the elves how to make the One Ring, a powerful object that will control the other rings. Annatar is not who he claims to be and will eventually corrupt the process of making the rings and bring destruction to Eregion, the kingdom of the Noldor elves.
The Lord of the Rings: Rings of Power Season 2 will debut on Prime Video on Thursday, August 29, 2024.
