Why only 2 seasons? Arcane co-creator reveals the true reason
With Season 2 of Arcane nearing its end, fans will be faced with the end of Vi and Jinx’s story. But its creators have a good reason why that is.
After years of waiting, Riot Games and Netflix have finally released Arcane Season 2. While the final few episodes are still to be released at the time of writing, fans already know tha this is going to be the ending to the entire story of Arcane, which means a definitive conclusion for Jinx, Vi, and the rest of the characters that have starred in the record-breaking series. But why exactly is the show ending if it’s so popular? According to one of the cocreators of the entire League of Legends franchise, it’s because they want to tell other stories of the same world.
Riot Games co-founder Marc Merril answered to a fan on Twitter/X when asked why the show wouldn’t be getting more seasons, revealing a very simple answer: “there are lots of other stories to tell”. Despite Arcane being such a hit, the co-founder of the studio wants to bring even more of the world of Runeterra to the world, with hints that the developers behind League of Legends are willing to explore more of the lore in a similar matter inside the game.
The future of Arcane goes far beyond this story
Back in June, the people behind the show were clear that they planend to end the story with this second seasons, and their plans to expand their storytelling by focusing on different events, heroes, and places. “Arcane ‘is just the beginning of our larger storytelling journey and partnership with the wonderful animation studio that is Fortiche,” said co-creator of the show Christian Linke.
“From the very beginning, since we started working on this project, we had a very specific ending in mind, which means the story of ‘Arcane’ wraps up with this second season. But ‘Arcane’ is just the first of many stories that we want to tell in Runeterra.”
