Will games continue to release for Nintendo Switch after its successor? Here’s Nintendo’s roadmap
The launch of the Nintendo Switch 2 doesn’t mean the end for its predecessor, as these titles confirm.

With over 150 million units sold, the Nintendo Switch remains one of the most popular consoles on the market. Its users need not fear the arrival of its successor, as Nintendo has a lineup of upcoming games to keep the console alive even after the Switch 2 launches on June 5, 2025. Here’s Nintendo’s roadmap to ensure the original system thrives and potentially surpasses the PlayStation 2 as the best-selling console in history.
Nintendo Switch’s roadmap post-Switch 2: Continuing into 2026
Though titles like Mario Kart World and Donkey Kong Bananza will remain exclusive to the Switch 2, Nintendo made it clear during their March Direct that the Switch is still far from obsolete. Between 2025 and 2026, several releases will continue to draw attention to the original console.
One standout is the much-anticipated Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream. A decade has passed since the previous installment on the Nintendo 3DS, and the game is already generating significant buzz on social media. Slated for release in 2026, it’s expected to appeal to a broader, more casual audience, especially through possible Lite bundles.
Another major release is Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, a title that ignited excitement in 2017 with its teaser and has seen prolonged development throughout the console’s generation. Although it will also have a dedicated version for the Switch 2, the game caters to the massive existing player base of the original Switch. Its promise of bringing Samus back into 3D makes it a definitive title for the system, with a release expected this year.
Looking toward late 2025, Pokémon Legends: Z-A will arrive just in time for the holidays. Featuring innovative combat mechanics and a fresh approach to environmental exploration, this title aims to captivate fans of the Pokémon series and keep them attached to the Switch.
