Will ‘Shogun’ get a Season 2? Its showrunner answers

Justin Marks reminds fans that Shogun is based on the James Clavell novel of the same name, with the first season adapting it from beginning to end.

There is no doubt that ‘Shogun’ has been one of the biggest premieres of the year. The FX samurai series has been named by critics “one of the 10 best series in history”. So it is not surprising that now that it has ended, many are wondering if there is a second season on the way. Justin Marks, creator and showrunner of the show alongside with Rachel Kondo, answered that question to The Hollywood Reporter, where he reminds fans that the show is based on a novel:’Shogun’, by James Clavell.

“I don’t know. I keep saying it’s like we want to let everyone be on the same page when it comes to the book. And hopefully now the TV audience and the book audience are on the same page with what the story is and where it resolves,” the showrunner explained. “I think if we had a story, if we could find a story, we would be open to it. But I don’t think that anyone ever wants to be out over their skis without a roadmap and everything. And it’s also just about, do people want more of it?”

The interviewer then pressed on by saying that It was like saying yes., but Marks lowered the euphoria. “But it’s also about, not even topping the book, but, how do you even equal the roadmap that Clavell laid out? And I don’t know if it’s possible. I don’t know if Clavell could have done it either. That’s probably why he moved on to other books too, right? He knew what he had done. Yeah, it’s a tough one.”.

Will there be season 2 of ‘Shogun’?

In other words and to summarize, its creators don’t close the door to a second season of ‘Shogun’, but they will begin to evaluate it and work on it from now on. The original idea was simply to adapt the novel of the same name by James Clavell and as they no longer have that as a guide, they will have to see what ideas they come up with and, above all, if they are up to par. Cross our fingers.
