Will the original Ghostbusters ever return in the future of the series?
Dan Aykroyd has spoken up about the future of the Ghostbusters franchise, and whether Bill Murray and Ernie Hudson would return.
‘Ghostbusters’ has always been one of the biggest movie franchises in the history of cinema. A comedy film about a bunch of scientists inventing weapons capable of dealing with the supernatural, only to turn it into a business with quirky uniforms and cheesy TV Spots? Crazy as it sounds (if you’ve never had the pleasure of seeing the original film), the 1984 classic was a total hit, leading to multiple sequels and spinoffs. While these movies continue to be hits, the newest generation of Ghostbusters still has the presence of the original crew. So what will happen after ‘Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire’?
Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis, Ernie Hudson, and Annie Pots were part of the first generation and have continued to appear in the two most recent films. Despite Ramis’s death, the character appeared recreated with CGI as a tribute, since these films star his descendants, the Spenglers. Aykroyd, who plays Ray Stantz, has spoken to the NY Post about the possible return of classic characters in upcoming films. He is also the screenwriter of the original feature film, but even so, he’s not too optimistic about it.
This is why you think they won’t come back
“I don’t see that coming,’ he said when asked if he and Bill Murray would be willing to return to make some more movies. “I don’t see where they would need us to carry it on. They’ve got a whole new cast, and they’ve got whole new ideas. I think probably they’re going to move on to advancing it beyond the originals, which they should.”
