Will there be a Mandalorian season 4? All details and when it could arrive

With the third season of The Mandalorian now over, it’s time to look toward the future of Din Djarin and Grogu. Here’s everything we know about Season 4.

Star Wars: The Mandalorian

The Mandalorian has just finished its third season with an exciting and action-packed final episode, with a small army of Mandalorians facing off against the series’ big bad guy and his many Imperial forces in an effort to take back their home planet. But after that ending, we’re all left wondering the same thing: will there be a Season 4? And when is it coming out?

As of this moment, neither Disney nor Lucasfilm (both of the production companies involved in the creation of the Star Wars series) have willingly revealed much information about a possible Season 4 yet, but there’s still some good news for fans.

Will there be a Season 4 of The Mandalorian?

If you’ve been anxious that the Season 3 finale meant that we wouldn’t see any more adventures of our favorite Bounty Hunter father and son duo, you can now take a breath and relax: Season 4 of The Mandalorian is already confirmed. In fact, series creator Jon Favreau has even revealed that it’s well underway. “Season 4? Yeah, I’ve written it already”, he said to the French news station BFMTV.

“We have to know where we’re going to tell a fully formed story. We had mapped it out, Dave [Filoni] and I, and slowly you start to write each episode,” revealed Favreau during his interview. “I was writing it post-production. All of it has to feel like a continuation and one full story. There’s a lot more things that we’ve got to keep in mind and also stuff that we’ve built up to from previous seasons of The Mandalorian as well.”

When is The Mandalorian Season 4 coming out?

This one question is something that still seems to be in the air. While none of the responsible parties have revealed any details about a potential release date (or release window, for that matter), the studio has a full slate of shows on the way for the rest of 2023, as well as 2024.

If you look at the situation from a historic point of view, Season 3 of The Mandalorian, the first two seasons launched within one year of each other, in 2019 and 2020 respectively. Season 3, however, saw a much larger period of time before its release: the pandemic hit right at the middle of its production, leading to a three-year wait before it started to release its episodes just a few weeks ago.

But that didn’t stop the plot of The Mandalorian. The Book of Boba Fett released in 2021, and while it was a spin-off centered around characters presented in the second season of Mando, it followed up on certain plot threads that eventually led to the events of Season 3. It’s possible that series like Ahsoka fill in for the time being, but it’s equally as likely that the production for Season 4 could wrap up in 2024. We’ll have to wait and see.
