Zack Snyder revealed his four favorite movies of all time, with one of them being the inspiration for Rebel Moon

The director behind ‘300′ and ‘Batman v Superman’, Zack Snyder, recently revealed the 4 movies that helped shape his love for film and his career, and they’re quite surprising.

Update:
Zack Snyder Star Wars

Zack Snyder, director of films like ‘Watchmen’, ‘300′, ‘Zack Snyder’s Justice League’ and the soon to be released ‘Rebel Moon, has shared his four favorite movies, four feature films that forever marked his life and career as a filmmaker and that, to everyone’s surprise, two of them have no parallels with his filmography at the level of how the director understands the epic and the spectacular. This is what Snyder explained in a recent interview with Letterboxd, one of them being the clearest reference to give life to his space epic that is about to release on Netflix.

Zack Snyder’s favorite movies

Snyder revealed his four favorite films, two of them being more or less obvious, with another two totally unexpected. The feature films chosen for the occasion are -ordered by year of release- ‘Star Wars - Episode IV: A New Hope’ from 1977, ‘All That Jazz’ from 1979, ‘Excalibur’ from 1981, and ‘Blue Velvet’ from 1986.

It’s not strange that the first choice for Zack Snyder would be the original installment of the galactic saga by George Lucas, since the filmmaker is a big fan of science fiction and his new film, ‘Rebel Moon’, was born from a discarded project, precisely, for ‘Star Wars’ which never came to fruition. The other choice that makes all the sense in the world is ‘Excalibur’ by John Boorman, a film that served as inspiration to capture his superheroic vision in cinema in films such as ‘Batman v Superman’, ‘Watchmen’ and even ‘Sucker Punch’.

The other two films chosen by Snyder are two works with much less visual impact that, however, contribute much more on an artistic level, especially for the musical from the late 70s.
