Why did Bayona get involved in the project?

In one of the screenshots we can appreciate the work of J.A. Bayona on the spot. The Catalan director has been responsible for directing the first two episodes of the season. To join the project the trust he had with the showrunners, J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay, was key.

"From the very beginning, I trusted these guys," Bayona tells Vanity Fair, "I knew what they were going through and they knew what I was going through. I knew what they were going through and they knew what I was going through also, because can you imagine going back to such a beloved world and [facing] the high bar of the Peter Jackson movies? We were, all the time, very aware of the massive expectations." Bayona acknowledges that beyond the script, he was seduced by how open Payne and McKay were to advise.

Another aspect reported in Vanity Fair is the season's budget. Although the production company has not disclosed official figures, the New Zealand government estimates that filming expenses exceed 462 million dollars. The structures built in the country will continue to be used in subsequent seasons.

“[The series] Beginning in a time of relative peace, the series follows an ensemble cast of characters, both familiar and new, as they confront the long-feared reemergence of evil to Middle-earth,” the series synopsis begins. It won't be long before we see the first trailer. It will be during the Super Bowl when the long-awaited teaser trailer will be released.
