Space whales in No Man's Sky: this is Leviathan, its new expansion
Starting today, No Man's Sky transforms into a roguelike with huge space whales in its new expansion, Leviathan, which will be free for all users.
Just as we ran out of jokes about its status when it came out, now we're running out of praise. Six years after its release, No Man's Sky continues to compensate its community with new and overwhelming free expansions. The next one will be called Leviathan, will be number nineteen? twenty? and includes as a great new feature the presence of space whales and roguelike mechanics.
Similar to Returnal, this expansion will immerse us in a time loop where "death is not the end". We will have to escape from such an anomaly in a new cooperative story with its own narrative, in a situation full of dangers and scenarios that change every time we fall in combat. Players must work together to break free from this loop. While dying resets the progress, a shared “universal memory” will grow to let us accomplish our goal.
Watch out for the first trailer of No Man's Sky Leviathan and its full list of new features:
No Man's Sky landing soon on Nintendo Switch
This 2022 is being busy for Sean Murray and the folks at Hello Games. Leviathan is the third expansion for No Man's Sky so far this year after Sentinels, in which they completely remodeled the combat system, and Outlaws, where we were allowed to become space pirates, and was just released last month. In addition to these DLCs and new expeditions, the studio has worked on Steam Deck compatibility (already available) and is currently immersed in the port for Nintendo Switch. We still don't have a date for it, but it is still scheduled for summer and its creators have assured that they are giving it "the final touches".
Has No Man's Sky redeemed itself yet, or do you think it will never be forgiven for what happened in 2016? Tell us in the comments.
