Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, all about the new Warzone, the mobile version and multiplayer
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 will arrive on October 28 and will bring a new Warzone, mobile version, multiplayer, new mechanics, vehicles, weapons and anti-cheats
As we mentioned in our Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 preview, last week we traveled to Infinity Ward's offices in Woodland Hills, California thanks to an invitation from Activision, to talk to the development team about all the news about the new Warzone, the mobile version and the multiplayer mode.
Warzone 2.0
The popular Battle Royale was not left out of the presentation, exposing the 3 main pillars on which it will evolve: technology, add-ons and its world.
It is important to note that this version will seek to be an extension of CODMW2 and will also expand to mobile platforms.
Undoubtedly one of the points that they did not leave aside was their anti-cheat policy, announcing that now with the new update they will use the Ricochet anti-cheat tool.
Multiplayer
The update will also have 3 pillars: support set by player behavior, integration of emergent gameplay and making it the best multiplayer experience.
The player's behavior will be defined by 3 types:
Unlike Call of Duty: Vanguard, the focus will now be on 1vs1 with new movement mechanics, vehicles as a central element and specialized gear. One of the movements that will undoubtedly be a substantial change, is to be prone since now we will be able to move in a transversal way.
Delving into the vehicle department, you will be able to do everything we listed above when we talked about the Convoy mission in the preview note, with the added bonus that we will be able to remove the doors and destroy the tires.
The special teams will have weapons such as the tactical camera, which can be placed at any point to track and mark enemies from the soldier's monitor. A new weapon is the Drill Charge, the DDOS which is a kind of electromagnetic pulse and a decoy in the form of an inflatable soldier.
Map types
Now we will have the Battle Maps that will be longer and more explorable, designed with the learning of Verdansk. Here we will find Sa'id which will be in an urban location that seeks to attract the most hardcore players. Sarrif Bay on the other hand will have a more touristic look and will implement underwater battles.
The Core Maps are made to play 6vs6 and will integrate the Museum map in Spain, the Grand Prix map in Asia and a training site.
New game modes
CODMW2 will have knockout mode, gunfights and one where the last one standing with a package wins. Other one that caught our eye is the prisoner rescue mode, here you will be able to win in different ways, either by extracting the target or eliminating the opposing team.
Something that the development team told us is that they did not resort to levels that can be destroyed, as this would disrupt the layout that they have designed precisely to make it more competitive.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is coming to Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, PS5 and PC on October 28, all players who pre-order will be able to access the beta.
