HBO confirms The Last of Us TV Series release date and shows its first poster

After the slip on its platform this week, HBO Max comes out confirming the obvious: The Last of Us series will premiere in America next January 16, 2023. Shortly after the end of the Holidays festivities of 2022, we will witness the small screen adaptation of Joel and Ellie's journey.

The first season will consist of ten episodes that will be released at a weekly pace. "THE LAST OF US takes place 20 years after modern civilization has been destroyed. Joel, a hardened survivor, is hired to smuggle Ellie, a 14-year-old girl, out of an oppressive quarantine zone," the production company explains in its official description. "What starts as a job soon becomes a brutal, heartbreaking journey, as they both must traverse across the US and depend on each other for survival." It is worth mentioning that of these 10 episodes, some "deviate greatly from the story" we met in the game.

Who will take part in The Last of Us series?

Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey will portray Joel and Ellie, respectively. The pair will be joined by other actors with roles of characters already seen in the video game, such as Gabriel Luna (Tommy), Anna Torv (Tess), Nico Parker (Sarah), Murray Bartlett (Frank), Nick Offerman (Bill), Melanie Lynskey (Kathleen), Storm Reid (Riley), Merle Dandridge (Marlene), Jeffrey Pierce (Perry), Lamar Johnson (Henry), Keivonn Woodard (Sam), Graham Greene (Marlon) and Elaine Miles (Florence), among others. We know that Ashley Johnson and Troy Baker, who played the main characters in the video game, will have a role that has not yet been revealed.

The series is produced and written by Craig Mazin, whose career includes highly popular series such as Chernobyl. Alongside Mazin is Neil Druckmann, director of the game and key player for the transfer of the work to the small screen. You can see its first official trailer at this link.
