John Wick 4’s director can't wait to direct the Ghost of Tsushima movie

Stahelski can’t wait to begin filming the movie about Sony’s newest IP set in feudal Japan.

Update:
John Wick 4’s director can't wait to direct the Ghost of Tsushima movie

John Wick 4 won’t release until March 23, 2023, but information surrounding the movie won’t stop coming. During an interview with IGN, director Chad Stahelski spoke about the present and future of the John Wick franchise and about how awesome Keanu Reeves is (something we already know and agree with alongside the rest of this entire planet), but he also spoke about what he thinks the Ghost of Tsushima movie will be.

Ghost of Tsushima’s cinematic potential

The Sucker Punch game, which takes place in Feudal Japan but was developed with lots of care by the american studio, surprised everyone when it was released in 2020. The game was lauded by Japanese audiences and critics, and when the Kurosawa filter was announced (which gave the game a black and white look in the style of old samurai films by the legendary director Akira Kurosawa) people lost their minds.

Such a tribute left clear that the link between cinema and video games were strong in this game. For Stahelski, it’s quite important to respect these inspirations. He said to IGN:

"[Ghost of Tsushima] is on my list of things I'm dying to direct. We have a very good script, still working out some of the details because it's a whole new kind of a ball game with that. Anyone that's played Ghost of Tsushima realizes the visual style and how intricate."

It seems like the director is aiming to be quite loyal to the game, which makes it easy for him in the cinematic department. We hope to see the result soon enough, and wish for it to join the ever growing list of good video game adaptations.
