Black Adam says goodbye to DC: Dwayne Johnson won't be part of James Gunn's new universe

The famous actor who seemed destined to change the power hierarchy in DC finally says goodbye to his character after the box office failure of Black Adam.

Update:
Black Adam says goodbye to DC: Dwayne Johnson won't be part of James Gunn's new universe

Black Adam, the new DC antihero played by Dwayne Johnson, will not be part of the new shared universe that James Gunn and Peter Safran are working on as creative directors of DC Studios. Or at least the "first chapter" of this new DC era in cinema. This was announced through social media by The Rock himself, who had remained silent after the Henry Cavill's departure and his recent rejoining the almost extinct DCEU as the big surprise of Black Adam, a film released in theaters just two months ago.

The new hierarchy of power in DC was different

The box office failure of Black Adam has been the trigger for Gunn and Safran not to trust the character and, in one way or another, leave him in the cooler; although it seems unlikely that Johnson can recover the character in a few years since the actor is already 50 years old. Not surprisingly, The Rock himself has assured that they will explore ways to be able to return in the future, while Gunn has commented that he would be happy to collaborate with Johnson's production company in the future. Perhaps a cameo in a possible multiversal crossover in a few years? Here's what Dwayne Johnson had to say as he said goodbye to DC:

“My passionate friends, I wanted to give you a long-awaited Black Adam update regarding the character’s future in the new DC Universe. James Gunn and I connected, and Black Adam will not be in their first chapter of storytelling. However, DC and Seven Bucks have agreed to continue exploring the most valuable ways Black Adam can be utilized in future DC multiverse chapters. James and I have known each other for years and have always rooted for each other to succeed. It’s no different now, and I will always root for DC (and Marvel) to win and WIN BIG. You guys know me, and I have a very thick skin - and you can always count on me to be direct with my words,” wrote Johnson.

Dwayne Johnson's open letter ends by thanking the fans for their support for all these years of work with Black Adam, as well as being proud of the movie they got, ending by wishing everyone a happy holiday season. For his part, James Gunn has reacted to Johnson's publication, assuring: "Love The Rock & I'm always excited to see what he & Seven Bucks do next. Can't wait to collaborate soon," concludes the DC Studios director.
