HBO reveals the only reason they would replace Bella Ramsey as Ellie in The Last of Us Season 2

There is a 5-year gap between the first and second games of The Last of Us and some believe that HBO should change Ramsey for the new season.

Update:
HBO reveals the only reason they would replace Bella Ramsey as Ellie in The Last of Us Season 2

While taking a look at the main elements of The Last of Us Season 2, the question is inevitable: is Bella Ramsey the ideal actress to play Ellie? Because yes, during this first season, she has nailed it and has come out, but there would be an important nuance, time in the new season. Five years pass between the story of The Last of Us and its sequel. One of the most significant changes was the appearance of Ellie, who went from 14 to 19 years old. From a child to a conflicted adult, perfectly capable of defending herself against anything without a squire like Joel.

It is clear that HBO does not intend to wait so long to shoot season 2, and the change in Ramsey seems complicated. In fact, the 19-year-old actress was chosen to play Ellie because of her youthful appearance. And although diets and workouts are a piece of cake for Hollywood, many wonder if it would not be easier to change the interpreter for an older and more like the new Ellie.

HBO has always stated that they are not even considering it, that they are happy with her and believe that this request is driven by the haters of the actress, of which she herself has spoken (and against which she is defended by, in her own words, "a gay army on Twitter"). But even so, Neil Druckman, co-creator of the games and co-showrunner of the series with Craig Mazin, has revealed that there is a reason why they could stop counting on her. They could.

"When we made the game, I felt we were incredibly lucky," Druckmann said in an interview with IGN. "It was like lightning in the bottle that we found Ashley Johnson. I can't imagine that version of Ellie being anybody else. And then somehow we got lightning in the bottle again with Bella. We are extremely lucky to have Bella and the stuff you saw throughout this entire season. The only way we would ever, ever consider recasting Bella is if she said, 'I don't want to work with you guys anymore.' Even then, I'm not sure we would grant her that. We might still force her to come back to Season 2."

It doesn't look like it right now, but we'll see. Craig Mazin has already warned that the second season will be "radically different" from the game.
