All the details as Teoscar Hernández reaches an agreement with the Dodgers
After several weeks of negotiations, the Los Angeles franchise and the outfielder reached a three-year agreement.
After weeks of negotiations, Teoscar Hernández and the Los Angeles Dodgers have finalized an agreement. On Friday, the outfielder signed a three-year contract worth $66 million, securing his return to Los Angeles for the upcoming season.
According to ESPN, the deal includes an option for a fourth year at $15 million, over $23 million in deferred payments, and a $23 million signing bonus.
Hernández’s impact with the Dodgers
Hernández was instrumental in the Dodgers’ success last season, particularly during the Fall Classic, where he played a key role in securing the franchise’s eighth MLB championship. Over 154 regular-season games, he posted a .272 batting average, hit 33 home runs, and recorded 99 RBIs. In the postseason, he contributed three home runs and achieved a .769 OPS.
A desire to stay in Los Angeles
Throughout the celebrations at Chávez Ravine following the Dodgers’ 2024 World Series victory, Hernández expressed his desire to stay with the team. He emphasized that his top priority in free agency was to return to Los Angeles, provided the terms met his expectations. His primary demand was a three-year contract with no deferred payments—terms the Dodgers were already prepared to offer at the outset of negotiations.
Fortunately for both parties, the Dodgers met Hernández’s conditions, finalising the agreement on Friday. While Hernández received offers from the Boston Red Sox, Toronto Blue Jays, and Seattle Mariners, he was only interested in returning to Los Angeles.
In the upcoming season, Hernández will once again strengthen the Dodgers’ formidable batting lineup, joining Shohei Ohtani, Mookie Betts, and Freddie Freeman.
