Astros lose Luis Garcia to Tommy John surgery

The Houston Astros announced, through an official statement issued by General Manager Dana Brown, that starter Luis García will require a Tommy John surgery to repair the ulnar collateral ligament in his right arm.
The team has not set a date for surgery, but it is expected that the right-hander will miss the remainder of the 2023 season and is expected to return at some point next season.
García last played on May 1, leaving Minute Maid Park after experiencing discomfort in his right elbow after throwing just two pitches against the San Francisco Giants.
The Dominican pitcher started six games in 2023 and went 2-2 with a 4.00 ERA after allowing 12 runs in 27 complete innings, recording 31 strikeouts and giving up 10 walks.
