Boston Red Sox extend contract of crowd favourite
The 37-year-old Cuban closer will remain with the Red Sox through at least the 2026 season, although he also has a contract option for 2027.

This Saturday, the Boston Red Sox announced that Aroldis Chapman, the veteran 37-year-old Cuban closer, has extended his contract. Chapman has proven his value in the role this season, leading management to reward him with a new deal.
According to reporter Francys Romero, who covers Cuban baseball in the Major Leagues, Chapman and the Red Sox agreed to an extension through the 2026 season, with a club option for 2027. It’s a significant move for Boston, as the left-hander is in outstanding form. Journalist Chris Cotillo added that the deal guarantees $13.3 million.
Chapman’s recent dominance has been remarkable: he hasn’t allowed a single hit in his last 14 outings, and since May 28—over three months ago—he has surrendered only one earned run. His reliability has made him one of the key pieces in Boston’s push for the American League East title.
The Red Sox currently sit in third place in the division, behind the Toronto Blue Jays and New York Yankees, but Chapman’s presence could prove decisive down the stretch. With Alex Cora’s club eyeing a return to the postseason, the veteran closer will be a critical weapon.
After struggling in recent years, Chapman has regained both his confidence and command in Boston. Following his rocky departure from the Yankees, he has reestablished himself at Fenway Park, energizing the home crowd with each appearance.
