Mexican pitcher Julio Urías has been suspended through the 2025 MLB All-Star break after violating Major League Baseball’s Joint Policy on Domestic Violence, Commissioner Rob Manfred confirmed.

“The Office of the Commissioner of Baseball has completed its investigation into allegations that free agent pitcher Julio Urías violated Major League Baseball’s Joint Policy on Domestic Violence, Sexual Assault, and Child Abuse.

After reviewing all available evidence, I have concluded that Mr. Urías violated our policy and that disciplinary action is appropriate,” the statement read.

When does Julio Urías’ MLB suspension end?

Urías, a left-handed pitcher, has not played since September 1, 2023. Just two days later, on September 3, he was arrested on suspicion of felony domestic violence outside BMO Stadium in Los Angeles, where he had attended an MLS match between Inter Miami and LAFC.

He was placed on administrative leave by MLB on September 6, 2023, while the league conducted its investigation. Urías was initially charged with felony bodily injury to his then-partner.

In May 2024, he pleaded not guilty to misdemeanor domestic battery. This was not his first offense—he previously served a 20-game suspension in 2019 under the same policy.

According to Los Angeles City Attorney spokesperson Ivor Pine, Urías was sentenced to 36 months of summary probation, 30 days of community service, and a 52-week domestic violence counseling program.

MLB announced Urías’ reinstatement from the restricted list on July 17, 2025. As of that date, he is eligible to negotiate with MLB teams for a potential return to the league. It’s worth noting that his contract with the Los Angeles Dodgers expired at the end of the 2023 season.
