Baseball has seen its fair share of peculiar injuries over the years, and this season we’ve already seen two painful/embarrassing ones to watch.

Back in July, Florida Marlins’ Miguel Rojas lost a tooth in an unfortunate exercise band incident, and this week, Philadelphia Phillies reliever David Robertson hurt himself badly in the saddest way that got him off the Phillies NLDS roster.

How did David Robertson hurt himself?

During an ecstatic moment for Philadelphia in the NL wild card series, Robertson injured his calf jumping to celebrate Bryce Harper’s Game 2 home run.

Phillies manager Rob Thomson revealed the injury of the 37-year-old to reporters Tuesday, adding that he had a platelet-rich plasma injection Monday and wasn’t able to make the trip to Atlanta for the NLDS.

“He’s going to try to work through it,” Thomson said “I don’t know when he’s going to be available. But obviously he’s off this round’s roster. Whether he’s available for the next round, we don’t know.”

This is sad news for the Phillies, who acquired the veteran from the Cubs at the 2022 trade deadline. D-Rob notched six saves in 22 games out of the bullpen, pitching to a 2.70 ERA (3.71 FIP) in that stretch.

Should the Phillies advance past the Atlanta Braves this week, Robertson can still be activated for the NLCS. This might be complicated without Robertson though.
