Two years ago, the Arizona Diamondbacks lost 110 games. That same year, the Texas Rangers lost 102. No turnaround in history has been so complete, so breathtaking, as the one taking place in MLB right now. These two teams will meet on Friday in the World Series.
No matter which way it comes out, a Wild Card team will be crowned champion, something that has only happened five times in baseball history.
For many, the Phillies were so sure of their berth in the Fall Classic, so prepared to give legitimacy to their run last season by repeating it this season. But alas it was not to be.
One of the biggest issues facing Arizona is one of perception. Around the league, they were seen as lucky to have even been in the playoffs, getting further than people imagined that they deserved to.
When they swept Milwaukee in the Wild Card, everyone said, "Well, the Brewers aren't that strong." When they rolled through the Dodgers, people scoffed, "Well that is just a fluke. The Dodgers fell apart." But now, they have proved to be too much for the Phillies, the team that everyone who likes an underdog story had tipped to go all the way. You can't brush Arizona aside anymore.
Some of the eye-opening players that the D-backs are bringing to national attention are the rookie pitcher Brandon Pfaadt and series MVP Ketel Marte, whose 16-game playoff hitting streak is a new MLB record.
We are in uncharted territory here, with this World Series featuring two teams that few expected to get there. But the matchups will be intense. Power hitters on both teams. Lights out pitching both ways. And two teams who have nothing to lose.
On Friday, the World Series will get underway in Arlington, Texas. I for one wouldn't miss it for the world.

Another fastball, another foul. Another and it is the same. Second verse, same as the first.
The sixth delivery is lifted high to right field and Corbin Carroll catches it by the right field line! The D-backs win! They are going back to the World Series!
Pinch hitter
Jake Cave will hit now for Cristian Pache.
Brandon Marsh the hitter and he fouls back the first delivery. Sewald comes back with another fastball and it is fouled back too. Another misses and a fourth is fouled back too.
Sewald goes to the sweeper that misses outside. The 2-2 delivery is lifted to left field deep, in the corner, but Lourdes Gurriel is there for the out. Two gone.
Bottom 9th
Nick Castellanos will lead off in the ninth for the Phillies and he takes a ball outside. The next pitch is a fastball that is fouled back. 1-1
Sewald's delivery is lifted to right field for Corbin Carroll. One out.
Pitching change
Paul Sewald will take over from Kevin Ginkel to try and slam the door on the Phillies.
Corbin Carroll to the plate and he watches a slider outside and another that catches the corner. The 1-1 delivery is fouled back and it is 1-2.
Perdomo goes on the next delivery and Carroll swings and misses for strike three to end the inning.
Ketel Marte up now and he fouls off a fastball before getting another called as a strike. Two more miss and the count is 2-2
Strahm delivers a slider for a foul ball. Perdomo was running on the pitch but will have to go back.
Another 2-2, Perdomo goes and Marte fouls it again.

That is going to do it for Zack Wheeler, he did what they needed him to do and held the fort. Now the Phillies call on Matt Strahm to close it out.

Emmanuel Rivera leads off in the ninth and he skies a high fly ball to left. Brandon Marsh has to come a long way to put it away. One out.
JT Realmuto the hitter now and he runs the count to 2-2 before getting stung by that beautiful slider! What a breaking ball Ginkel has!
Bryson Stott up now and he runs the count to 2-2.
Ginkel goes back to that slider to get Stott swinging at strike three. Two down

Alek Bohm leads off for the Phillies here in the eighth and he falls behind quickly on two breaking balls. 0-2
A fastball misses before Bohm chases another sweet slider for strike three. Bohm is furious and slams his bat to the ground, breaking it. One down
Smith takes a fastball outside and the next one finds the edge. 1-1
He watches another slider miss before lifting a fly ball to shallow left field for Brandon Marsh to end the inning.
Pinch hitter

That pitch was a ball and Gurriel fouls back two more deliveries. The 2-2 delivery is lifted to shallow center field. Trea Turner rushes back and catches it over the shoulder! Great catch. He throws to second but Walker manages to get back to the bag. Two down.
Stolen base
Lourdes Gurriel Jr the hitter now he falls behind in the count 1-2. A high fastball is fouled back and we do it again. The next delivery sees Walker take off and the throw is not in time. Stolen base.
Alek Thomas the hitter now and the first two pitches miss for balls. That is six straight that Wheeler has thrown.
He catches the inside corner with a fastball. The 2-1 delivery is lifted to right field. That is hit hard and on a line, but Nick Castellanos manages to catch up to it in front of the wall! Great catch! One out.
Top 8th
Christian Walker leads off for Arizona and on the defense, Cristian Pache will take over in center field. Wheeler's first delivery misses outside. Walker swings through a fastball and it is 1-1.
A fastball just misses outside, and again two more times for a leadoff walk.
Bryce Harper now representing the go ahead run. He takes a slider low for ball one. A middle-middle fastball is called strike one and he must wish that he had gone after that one!
The 1-1 a slider in the dirt and it si 2-1.
Ginkel goes back to the fastball and Harper lifts it to center field for Alek Thomas. The D-backs get out of trouble. At the end of seven it is still 4-2 Arizona
Trea Turner will face the new pitcher with runners on first and second and one out. The first delivery is a slider low and away that catches Turner swinging. Ginkel goes back to it for the same result and it is 0-2
Turner fouls the next one off and we do the 0-2 again.
The next delivery is lifted to center field for Alek Thomas. It is not deep enough to move the runners along. Two down.
Pitching change
Torey Lovullo will come out and take the ball from Saalfrank and call on Kevin Ginkel to try and get out of this mess.
Kyle Schwarber to hit and Saalfrank misses low and away for ball one. The next one is a curveball in the dirt. 2-0
Saalfrank goes after him and puts a sinker in there for a called strike and the count is 2-1.
Going back to the curve ball and Schwarber can't hold off the check swing. 2-2
Another breaking ball and this time he manages to check it. The count is full. The payoff delivery is fouled off. We do it again. Another curve ball in the dirt and Schwarber draws the walk! That is back to back walks for Saalfrank!
Pache works the count full and the payoff delivery from Saalfrank misses low for ball four.

Marsh gets behind 1-2 and swings at a curve ball in the dirt for strike three. It gets away from the catcher Moreno and Marsh will make him make the throw to complete the out. One down
Bottom 7th
Brandon Marsh leads things off for the Phillies in the seventh and the Diamondbacks will bring on Andrew Saalfrank to take over on the mound. Alek Thomas will replaces Tommy Pham and play center as Corbin Carroll slides over to right.
Gabriel Moreno will face the new pitcher with Marte on second and two out. Wheeler's first pitch is a fastball for a strike. The slurve misses outside as does another fastball and it is 2-1.
A fastball misses high and it is 3-1. Wheeler delivers a big-time curve for a called strike two and the count is full.
The payoff is another beauty of a breaking ball to get Moreno swinging and end the inning.
But the D-backs tack another one on, stretching their lead to 4-2.
Pitching change
Desperate times call for desperate measures and Rob Thomson calls on starting ace Zack Wheeler to come on in relief, taking over on the mound from Jose Alvarado.
DIAMONDBACKS SCORE!
Corbin Carroll to the plate now with one out and runners at second and third. Alvarado blows a 100mph fastball past him for strike one. Another one misses low and it is 1-1.
Alvarado notches it up to 101mph and Carroll swings through it. 1-2
Carroll fouls off the next one and then lifts one to right field. Perdomo tags up and scores from third on the sac fly!
Double
Ketel Marte bounces the first delivery off his foot. It rolls to third and the Phillies turn the double play but it won't count. Foul ball. 0-1
The next delivery is ripped to the wall in right field! Marte is in with a double! Perdomo advances to third!
Geraldo Perdomo will face the new pitcher and the first pitch is a 98 mph fastball for strike one. He climbs the ladder for strike two at 99mph.
Perdomo jumps on the third delivery and slaps it into left field for a single.
Pitching change
Jose Alvarado will get the call to come out of the Phillies bullpen and replace Jeff Hoffman.
Top 7th
Emmanuel Rivera leads off for the Diamondbacks and he takes a slider, ball high. Hoffman tries again inside but misses again.
He now goes to his fastball and gets a called strike. Trying that slider again on the inside, Rivera rips it down the third base side but Alec Bohm makes a nice backhand grab. A great throw to first and we have one away.
Nick Castellanos the hitter and he dribbles a roller to short for Perdomo. The throw to first and it is a 1-2-3 inning for the D-backs.
At the end of six, it is D-backs 3, Phillies 2.
JT Realmuto up now and he lifts a long fly ball to left field. Gurriel is on his horse and gets to it! Two down

Bryson Stott leads off for the Phillies in the sixth. He watches a sinker for a ball and a strike before swinging through another. It is 1-2.
Stott chops a roller to second but Marte gets to it and makes the throw to first. One out.
Evan Longoria to the plate and he watches a called strike and a ball to even the count.
The 1-1 is fouled back and it is 1-2.
A slider catches Longoria swinging for strike three.
Lourdes Gurriel Jr the hitter and the first two miss for balls before fouling back a slider. The 2-1 delivery is a low heater that he can never catch up to and it is 2-2.
Hoffman delivers and Gurriel slaps it straight back up the middle for a single to center.
Tommy Pham now and he chases the first delivery, broken bat, rolling it to short for Turner. The throw to first and it is two down.

Kyle Schwarber leads off for the Phillies and he raps a shot to right field. It gets past Tommy Pham and goes to the wall. Schwarbs will have a leadoff double!

Moreno slaps a single to right field and Carroll rounds third and heads for home! The throw to the plate is not in time and Carroll scores! The throw is cut and they get Moreno in a run down between first and second, tagging him to end the inning but the D-backs have flipped it, retaking the lead!

Gabriel Moreno up now to face the new pitcher and Corbin Carroll steals second on the first pitch.
PITCHING CHANGE
That is going to do it for Ranger Suárez and Jeff Hoffman will come out of the Phillies bullpen to take over.

A sinker misses inside and it is 2-1.
Another sinker is poked through to center field for a single! Rivera scores from second! The D-backs have levelled the score!
Ketel Marte up now and he watches the first two for balls before tapping a changeup one the third base line. Realmuto shepherds it out into foul territory. The 2-1 is fouled back before He whiffs badly at a huge curve ball! That was nasty! Two down

Geraldo Perdomo the hitter and he squares around and bunts foul. The 0-1 is successfully bunted up the first base line. Ranger Suárez fields it and goes to first for the out. Rivera advances to second.

The next delivery from Pfaadt bounces in front of the plate. The 1-2 delivery is a slurve to catch Rojas swinging for strike three. They get out of it, but the Phillies take the lead on a Stott double. At the end of four, Phillies 2, D-backs 1.

Another misses low and it is 2-0. Another change and he misses outside for ball three.

Another slurve on the inside corner gets Harper swinging to end the inning.

Marte takes a first pitch strike. The next delivery is fouled off and it is quickly 0-2.

The Phillies will give the ball to ace Ranger Suárez, who had a phenomenal outing in Game 3, shutting out the D-backs in 5.1 innings. He has the best postseason stats for any pitcher in the league with at least five starts, with an ERA of just 0.94!
It is possible to get on top of him, as the Braves did in Game 4 of the ALDS, but it is not an easy thing to do, and the Diamondbacks will likely want to work his counts long and get him off the mound quickly before any real damage can be done to the Phillies.
Arizona will hand the ball to rookie right hander Brandon Pfaadt, who has been absolutely sizzling in the post season. He dominated both the Dodgers and the Phillies in his last two starts and went 5.2 scoreless innings in Game 3. One of the highlights of the Arizona farm system, Pfaadt will be leaning on that outstanding fastball to do the heavy lifting, and he likes to get out in front with first pitch strikes.

Welcome to the Diario AS USA live commentary of Game 7 of the NLCS series between the Arizona Diamondbacks and the Philadelphia Phillies from Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
After looking punch-drunk and outclassed in Game 5, the Diamondbacks handed the Phillies a taste of their own medicine in Game 6, levelling a back-and-forth NLCS at three.
Jumping all over Aaron Nola, the D-backs looked for all the world like a team who can score at will, something that Philadelphia has been dishing out to opponents throughout the back end of the season and playoffs.
This NLCS was meant to be a coronation of sorts, a confirmation of the Phillies as a new National League dynasty, one that could be counted on to repeat last year’s unexpected run to the World Series, thereby cementing their claim on the title. It could only be a matter of time.
The Marlins were no match for them. The Braves were impotent when faced with their power. The Diamondbacks were meant to be light work on their way to a rematch with Houston.
But then, as news filtered in that the Astros had been dealt a blow by the Rangers, it suddenly looked as if the same fate may await the Phillies.
Games 1 and 2 started so strong that nobody in Philly thought that Game 7 would be necessary. They were wrong. And now they are well and truly up against it, in a do or die situation where it all comes down to one game.
