Dominican shortstop Elly de La Cruz continues to impress with his brilliant performances in Major League Baseball - despite being only in his second year in the MLB with the Cincinnati Reds.

De La Cruz going from strength to strength

The 22-year-old gained attention for his lightning speed running the bases since his debut season, in which he recorded unprecedented times of 30.6 seconds to the home plate. His running has allowed him to register an historical mark that no player has achieved since 1900.

De la Cruz is the only player with at least 65 stolen bases and 50 extra bases (since he already registers 67 stolen bases and 50 extra bases) in a year since his arrival in the MLB, according to the renowned baseball statistician Sarah Langs.

In addition, his numbers continue to show that he is one of the players with the best projection, as he has an offensive line of .241/.335/.430 with 10 home runs, 11 doubles, one triple; adding 26 RBIs and 32 stolen bases so far this season.

De la Cruz and the Reds are back in action this evening, taking on the Chicago Cubs at Great American Ball Park. The team occupies third in NL Central with a 30-33 record.
