The Seattle Mariners (48-45) came within touching distance of recording the seventh no-hitter in franchise history, but the New York Yankees (52-41) had other ideas, rallying for a 6-5 win in the 10th inning thanks to a walk-off sacrifice fly from Aaron Judge, with Anthony Volpe sliding skillfully across home plate.

Seattle’s early lead was built on clutch hitting. Cole Young opened the scoring in the second inning with an RBI single that brought home Luke Raley. Miles Mastrobuoni added to the advantage with a deep drive to center in the fourth, allowing Dominic Canzone to score.

The Mariners extended their lead in the seventh when designated hitter Jorge Polanco launched a three-run homer to right field off a Clayton Beeter slider, clearing Yankee Stadium’s short porch.

Starting pitcher Bryan Woo carried a no-hitter into the eighth inning. The right-hander had struck out five and issued just two walks before Jazz Chisholm Jr. and Ben Rice broke it up with back-to-back singles. Austin Wells then drove in the Yankees’ first run, spoiling the dream.

At that point, the Mariners’ manager turned to reliever Matt Brash to finish the inning. But the Yankees weren’t done. Giancarlo Stanton, pinch-hitting, blasted a two-run homer to pull New York within 5-3.

Yankees strike late against Andrés Muñoz

Seattle closer Andrés Muñoz, one of the American League’s most reliable arms, couldn’t close the door. He gave up singles to Trent Grisham and Cody Bellinger and walked Ben Rice to load the bases. The decisive blow came from Austin Wells, whose single drove in two runs to tie the game.

The Mariners failed to respond in the top of the 10th. In the bottom half, reliever Gabe Speier walked a tightrope. After issuing an intentional walk to Paul Goldschmidt and struggling with his command against Grisham, the Yankees loaded the bases for Judge’s fourth plate appearance of the night. The captain delivered, lifting a sacrifice fly deep enough for Volpe to race home and complete the comeback.
