Cole has been on the injured list since spring training due to nerve inflammation in his right elbow that did not require Tommy John surgery. He has been gradually reintegrating into activity with sessions against batters since the last week of May.

Gerrit Cole is excited about his return to the mound and mentioned that everything is progressing positively. He stated that he could be ready for the month of June, saying, “I wouldn’t rule it out...we are moving forward at a good pace.

No major damage after injury

The experienced pitcher undergoes frequent studies to monitor the progress of his recovery. According to Dr. Neal El Attrache’s diagnosis, there was no trace of damage left in Cole’s ligament.

Although the Yankees’ rotation has responded well to the absence of their star pitcher, the return of Gerrit Cole in June could help Aaron Boone’s team cover for the absence of Clarke Schmidt. At the end of May, Schmidt went on the injured list and will remain there for at least a month.
