How a single swing and a blazing fastball decided Red Sox vs Yankees in the Bronx
Connor Wong drove in the lone run while Brayan Bello outdueled Max Fried in a pitching showcase at Yankee Stadium.

The Boston Red Sox (70-59) took the second game of their weekend series against the New York Yankees (69-59) by the slimmest of margins, a 1-0 win sealed by Connor Wong’s RBI double in the seventh inning and a superb start from Brayan Bello – his 10th victory of the 2025 season.
Pitching duel at Yankee Stadium
Starters Brayan Bello and Max Fried put on a show from the mound, keeping the scoreboard clean through six innings. Bello went seven full, striking out five, allowing just three hits and issuing one walk. Fried completed six innings with seven strikeouts and four hits before giving way to Mark Leiter Jr.
The breakthrough came in the top of the seventh. Nathaniel Lowe, pinch-hitting for Nate Eaton, ripped a double to right off Leiter Jr. Moments later, Wong drove him home with an extra-base hit into left to put Boston on the board.

Aroldis Chapman throws flames at the Yankees
Boston carried the narrow lead into the ninth, where manager Alex Cora handed the ball to Aroldis Chapman. Firing fastballs that touched 100 mph, the Cuban closer retired Paul Goldschmidt on a grounder before striking out Trent Grisham.
The final battle came against Ben Rice, who went down swinging at a slider that broke down near his ankles. Chapman locked up his 24th save of the season and delivered a second straight dominant outing against his former team.
