José Altuve strikes new six-figure deal with the Houston Astros
José Altuve has remained one of the pillars of the Houston Astros offense and has agreed a five-year extension in exchange for $125 million.
The Houston Astros and José Altuve have reached an agreement for a five-year contract extension - a deal which will keep the Venezuelan second baseman tied to the MLB franchise until the 2029 season, the ‘Stros announced through its social media networks. Altuve’s contract is worth $125 million, divided over five seasons, plus a a $15 million signing bonus.
Altuve has played his entire career with the Astros. During his 13 years in Houston, the 33-year-old has accumulated a line of .307/.364/.471 with 2,047 hits, 209 home runs, 747 runs batted in and 293 stolen bases in 1,668 regular season games. This is the third time that he has have signed a contract extension with Houston.
He has won the Silver Slugger six times, has been batting champion on three occasions and has twice won the World Series. ‘Stros general manager Dana Brown recently said that Altuve “should be in Houston for life” while the player responded by reiterating his desire to remain with the franchise until he decides to retire - most likely after he completes this new deal.
