Mexican Víctor González leaves the New York Yankees

The pitcher will leave the team in the next few days. If no one claims him, he could be placed in free agency.

The pitcher will leave the team in the next few days. If no one claims him, he could be placed in free agency.

For the first time in many years for the fans from the Bronx, the New York Yankees are aiming to keep up their impressive numbers in what is turning into one of their best campaigns in recent tournaments. Not content with being only Division and Conference leaders, they have also established a game that undoubtedly places them as serious candidates for the title.

However, and as is usually the case with teams of such talent, when the time comes to make the tough decisions on the path to success, they cannot afford to hesitate, and everything must be taken into account.

To the misfortune of the Mexican pitcher, Víctor González, the return from his most recent performances with the ‘Bombers’, turned into a DFA. On the afternoon of Friday, June 21, the New York side officially announced that the pitcher would abandon ship mid-season.

With an outstanding career in the Major Leagues (where he was crowned with the Dodgers), the Mexican pitcher did not make the cut, and was sent to assignment (fired) before the game against the Atlanta Braves; this comes with a free space inside the roster, a spot which can be reinforced with another player that works better in terms of the plan and development of the franchise.

“Prior to tonight’s game, the Yankees made the following roster moves: Signed right-hander Phil Bickford (#53) to a Major League contract and selected him to the active roster. Designated pitcher Victor Gonzalez for assignment. Called up right-hander Yoendrys Gómez (#94) from Triple-A” says the team’s post.

It is worth remembering that Víctor González played in 27 games this season, where he saw action for 23.1 innings, in which he conceded 10 runs and struck out 11 opponents for an effectiveness of 3.86 and a record of 2-1 (numbers that left something to be desired for a pitcher whose main function was to save). Goodbye, González.
