Miami Marlins pick up Luis Arráez in trade with Minnesota Twins
Minnesota have sent Luis Arraez to the Miami Marlins in a deal that lands pitcher Pablo López for the Twins.
Aaron Judge had a historic season in 2022, but he wasn’t the top dog. There was one player who prevented him from walking away with the triple crown. Infielder Luis Arráez had the league’s top batting average with .316 and now all the indicators are that he will have a new team in 2023.
According to a report by ESPN’s Jeff Passan, the Twins have sent Arráez to the Marlins in exchange for pitcher Pablo López. Full trade details have not been released, but MLB Network reports that Jose Salas and Bryan Chourio, two of Miami’s top prospects, will be coming to Minnesota
The Venezuelan Aráez played 144 games for the Twins in 2022 and had 173 hits in 547 at bats. In addition, he recorded eight home runs and drove in 49 runs. He also walked 50 times while striking out only 43.
One of the benefits of acquiring Arráez is that he will be under team control until the end of the 2025 season, when he can become a free agent.
Help for Correa
After re-signing Carlos Correa, the Twins are focused on winning the Commissioner’s Trophy in the near future and have improved their starting rotation with the arrival of Lopez.
The Venezuelan right hander steps into a Twins rotation that also includes Sonny Gray, Joe Ryan and Tyler Mahle. At only 26 years old, he brings young blood to the organization and after a 10-10 season in 32 starts with Miami, he put up a respectable 3.75 ERA.
