MLB legend Pete Rose dies at the age of 83: Cause of death revealed
Rose, who was known for his incredible career and later for his controversial ban from baseball, died at his home in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Major League Baseball’s all-time hits leader, Pete Rose, passed away at the age of 83 on September 30, 2024. Though his agent, Ryan Fiterman, initially indicated that Rose’s family had requested privacy - understandably so - during this difficult time, Rose’s cause of death has since been revealed as a hypertensive and atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease with a significant condition of diabetes Mellitus from heart disease, according to Melanie Rouse, the coroner for the Clark County Office.
Rose’s career was marked by extraordinary achievements. He amassed 4,256 hits, a record that still stands today. Known as “Charlie Hustle,” Rose played for the Cincinnati Reds, Philadelphia Phillies, and Montreal Expos during his 24-year career. He was a 17-time All-Star and won three World Series championships.
Why did Pete Rose do to get banned from professional baseball?
However, Rose’s legacy was marred by a gambling scandal. In 1989, he was banned from baseball for betting on games while managing the Reds. Despite his ban, Rose remained a beloved figure among many fans and continued to be involved in baseball through various events and appearances.
Rose’s death marks the end of an era for baseball. His contributions to the sport and his complex legacy will be remembered by fans and players alike. As the baseball community mourns his passing, tributes are pouring in from around the world, celebrating his remarkable career and the indelible mark he left on the game.
Though no official announcement has been made regarding a memorial service, fans continue to gather by Rose’s statue outside of Great American Ball Park in Cincinnati to pay tribute and leave flowers.
