Mookie Betts’ salary: How much money does the Dodgers player earn?
Although Shohei Ohtani is the star of the Los Angeles Dodgers, the Californian organization has Mookie Betts as its highest-paid outfielder in 2024.
The two teams which boast the highest payrolls in Major League Baseball will face off in the upcoming World Series. The New York Yankees visit the Los Angeles Dodgers on Friday in Game 1 of the best-of-seven World Series, with the winners taking home the Commissioner’s Trophy.
The Dodgers have the second-highest payroll in MLB with total expenditure at $339.8 million in 2024. One player accounts for over an eighth (12.83 percent) of that total: outfielder Mookie Betts.
Ohtani tops MLB ranking
Although Shohei Ohtani is the Dodgers’ big star and tops the overall MLB ranking ($700 million in deferred paymants between 2023-33), the California organization has Betts as its highest-paid outfielder in 2024. By adjusting for the luxury tax, Mookie’s $30 million salary has been hiked to $30.41 million.
That’s because Betts signed a 12-year, $365 million deal in July 2020, a few months after being traded from the Boston Red Sox to Los Angeles. According to Spotrac, he will make $30 million per season from 2024 to 2027. His salary will rise to $35 million for the 2028 to 2030 seasons. His final two seasons with the Dodgers will pay him $32.5 million.
The Dodgers’ highest-paid players in 2024
After Mookie Betts, only four Dodgers players receive salaries in excess of $10 million before the luxury tax adjustment: Freddie Freeman, Teoscar Hernández, Chris Taylor and Will Smith. Freeman receives $27 million; Hernandez receives $15 million, Taylor $13 million and Smith $11.55 million.
The 2024 MLB World Series between the Los Angeles Dodgers and the New York Yankees gets underway on Friday 25 October with Game 1 to be played at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles, California and scheduled to start at 5:08 p.m. PT.
The two teams will return to the same venue for Game 2 on Saturday 26 October before the series moves to New York. Game 3 will be played at Yankee Stadium on Monday 28 October with the first pitch at 8:08 p.m. ET with Game 4 set for the following day at the same time.
