The New York Yankees remain highly active in the MLB offseason and on this occasion they decided to reinforce their infield for the 2024 campaign and have claimed Colombian Jeter Downs from the Washington Nationals on waivers.

Jeter Downs, a shortstop, third baseman and second baseman, was a Boston Red Sox prospect and played in the Nats’ minor leagues in 2023. The Bronx Bombers have decided to bet on one more infielder despite overcrowding, but they are urging caution - anticipating a possible repeat of the the constant injuries that their stars have suffered in recent campaigns.

The Colombian had an offensive line of .222/.363/.356 with 17 extra-base hits, 20 RBIs and 11 stolen bases in 60 appearances in the Washington team’s minor leagues last season. He also participated in six games with the Nationals in the MLB.

Downs, who does not have a great deal of MLB experience, will most likely start the season in the minor leagues. Late in the season, he could receive a call from manager Aaron Boone to debut with the Yankees.
