The Phillies had a solid home-field advantage during the postseason and proved it by hitting six home runs and outscoring the Diamondbacks 15-3 in two games, taking a 2-0 lead in the NLCS.

However, the D-backs are eager to respond and win big now that the series is moving to Chase Field for Game 3 on Thursday. The only home game they played this postseason was a win against the Dodgers in the NLDS during Game 3.

Unfortunately, the odds are stacked against them, as teams taking a 2-0 lead in all best-of-seven postseason series have gone on to win that series 75 of 89 times (84%). Although 14 teams have come back from being down 0-2 in the past, only two have done so in the last 26 years: the 2020 Dodgers in the NLCS against the Braves and the 2004 Red Sox against the Yankees in the ALCS (coming back from being down 3-0).

Phillies vs Diamondbacks Game 3 starting pitchers

Arizona Diamondbacks

Arizona Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo has confirmed that rookie Brandon Pfaadt will start Game 3 of the National League Championship Series against the Philadelphia Phillies on Thursday at Chase Field. Lovullo announced on Tuesday before Game 2.

This will be Pfaadt’s third postseason appearance, having already impressed by shutting out the Los Angeles Dodgers in Game 3 of the division series, where Arizona completed a sweep.

Philadelphia Phillies

In the first game of the National League Championship Series, the Phillies clinched a victory with a remarkable performance from their star pitcher, Zack Wheeler. They secured a five-run lead and held off the Diamondbacks with a score of 5-3. On to Game 2, Aaron Nola will start for the Phillies, facing off against Arizona’s right-handed pitcher, Merrill Kelly. In the upcoming Game 3, the Phillies are set to play lefty Ranger Suárez, who faced off against the D-Backs twice this summer, throwing 12 innings, giving up nine hits and striking out 12, but ultimately failed to secure a win.
