San Diego Padres set a team record in KC Royals win
While cruising to a thumping win over the Kansas City Royals, the San Diego Padres set a team record with 11 hits in one inning
The San Diego Padres bludgeoned the Kansas City Royals on Friday night with an 11-8 win. The Royals bullpen struggled to keep up the pace and in the eighth inning, things got completely out of hand.
The eighth inning opened up with seven consecutive singles by the Padres. Seven. Consecutive.
Will Klein, the Royals’ third pitcher of the inning, was the first to record an out. On the eighth batter of the frame.
The Padres were actually down 3-2 at that point in the game, but scored nine runs on 11 hits before things were done, which set a franchise record for hits in a single inning.
That performance also tied a club record for the Royals as the worst single inning in their franchise history, set on April 11, 1997, against the Yankees.
The full list for the eighth inning was 14 batters faced for 10 singles, one double and nine runs scored. Michael Wacha was awarded the loss for Kansas City while Dylan Cease notched up the win. The first five innings were a tight pitching duel, but the wheels completely fell off in the eighth for Kansas City.
