The saga involving Mexican pitcher Julio Urías and his future in professional baseball, whether in the Major Leagues or elsewhere, remains on the table. A little more than four months after Major League Baseball placed Culichi in free agency, and began investigations into the accusations of domestic violence against him, the The Sinaloan’s future remains up in the air. Which is why several teams in Mexico are thinking of repatriating him.

Could Urías return to Mexico?

One specific case is that of Diablos Rojos, who through their Sports Director, Miguel Ojeda, recently told Hi! Sports TV: “Julio Urías is always an option. He was born here, grew up here and obviously he is waiting for the possibility of going to Japan (NPB). We have had little contact with him, respecting his space. He is a high impact player as everyone knows and if he is hired, he will be welcome”. However, and in the near future, there could be some interest on the part of some MLB franchises to acquire his services.

In an interview with Los Angeles Times sports journalist Bill Shaikin, the representative of former Dodgers pitcher, Scott Boras, revealed that several teams have asked him about Urías’ current situation: “We certainly have teams that ask a lot about him, but we are all waiting for the authorities to inform us what Julio’s position is,” he declared.

He went on to add that the Mexican player continues with his training regime, and that he has not left aside improving in other areas of his life: “He is basically doing what players do (personal training). He is also taking steps to grow personally,” he concluded. The Culiacán-born player first came to MLB in 2016 and remained with the Los Angeles Dodgers until September of last year. The Mexican pitcher was placed on administrative leave in September, the first move to being completely frozen out after seven years in the Major Leagues. He is currently a free agent and could sign for any of the other 29 teams although there would be certain legal ramifications to contend with before that happens.
