Shohei Ohtani continues his steady advance towards making history in MLB. The Japanese designated hitter remains on course to achieve an unprecedented feat of 50 home runs and 50 stolen bases in one single MLB season.

Ohtani hits 46th HR

This weekend he hit his 46th home run in the Los Angeles Dodgers’ 4-0 victory over the Cleveland Guardians at Dodgers Stadium.

As things stand, he remains with 46 home runs and 46 stolen bases and with 19 games left to play, he was honest about the possibility of reaching 50 in both by the time the regular season reaches it’s conclusion on 29 September.

“I’m trying to be less conscious of that (about the possibility of getting to 50-50) and just focus on doing a good job on the field and whenever possible during the game, whether it’s stealing bases or moving to the next base, that’s what I’m trying to do,” Ohtani said after the game.

According to projections, Ohtani could finish the season with 51 home runs and 51 stolen bases. If he continues his run of form, he could make history and inaugurate the 50-50 club - becoming the first member as the first player in MLB history to reach such figures.

The Dodgers take on the Chicago Cubs (73-70) in the first of a three-game series at Dodger stadium this evening (9 September) with the game scheduled to get underway at 7:10 p.m. PT local time (10:10 p.m. ET).
