Shohei Ohtani’s numbers that make him a favorite for the National League MVP in MLB
Shohei Ohtani is the Los Angeles Dodgers’ top superstar and his numbers help him to remain the odds-on favorite to walk away with the league MVP award.
Shohei Ohtani remains one of the most outstanding players this season in Major League Baseball and is shaping up to become the MVP again, this time in the National League (with the Los Angeles Angels he won two MVP awards in the American League).
The adaptation of the Japanese baseball player has met expectations, despite maintaining the pressure of having signed a multimillion-dollar contract with the Dodgers. The Blues lead the National League West with 23 wins and 13 losses.
Ohtani's numbers that profile him as MVP
Ohtani leads all competition in batting average with .364, in home runs with 10, he has had 52 hits, he has 25 extra-base hits, in the slugging category he has .685, an OPS of 1.111, OPS+ of 212 and accumulates 98 total bases. As if that were not enough, he maintains an outstanding on-base percentage with .426.
These figures see the Japanese superstar as a serious candidate to win MVP in the National League. One caveat to highlight is that should he win this season, it will be entirely based on his offense. This season, Ohtani cannot pitch as he recovers from an elbow surgery.
