Shohei Ohtani has become the best Japanese home run hitter in the Major Leagues and in the history of the Los Angeles Dodgers franchise, surpassing the record set by Dave Roberts. The Japanese superstar has 10 home runs in his first 35 games with the Los Angeles franchise and has 181 in his entire Major League Baseball career.

Last weekend, Shohei Ohtani broke the record set by the current Dodgers manager by hitting a home run in the bottom of the third inning against the Atlanta Braves. The Japanese smiled as he walked around the bases and hugged Dave Roberts when he arrived at the dugout for having made history by being the player born in Japan with the most home runs wearing the Los Angeles uniform.

Special bond between Dave Roberts and Shohei Ohtani

At the end of the meeting, Shohei Ohtani kept his promise and gave a blue Porsche toy car to Dave Roberts to put on his desk as a souvenir. The double threat told reporters that he will give him a real Porsche if the Dodgers win the 2024 World Series.

“He brought it to my office, so there is context. He bought me a car and I guess I didn't specify what kind of car I wanted. So Shohei brought me a nice little Porsche, so I can't decide that he never gave me anything,” Dave Roberts said.

It should be remembered that when Shohei Ohtani signed his historic contract with the Dodgers in the offseason in exchange for $700 million for 10 years, he gave a Porsche Panamera model to his teammate Joe Kelly. The reason was because the pitcher gave him the number 17 number and the Japanese superstar wanted to thank him for the gesture with a car that is valued at more than $100,000.
